Agricultural development in third world countries has come under considerable pressure and scrutiny due to poor forestry management practices and the deforestation of pristine rain forests.
With proper management, similar criticisms of Jatropha Curcas will not occur. Jatropha can be grown on land in the most adverse conditions in the tropics and sub-tropics. It has been used to combat desertification in Africa, and similar environmental remediation trials with added economic benefit have been proposed in a number of Asian countries.
Due to the toxic properties of its seeds, Jatropha Curcas is exclusively used for the production of inedible products, including biofuel and high quality fertilizer. Biodiesel made from Jatropha is known as Jatropha Methyl-Ester, and does not risk price fluctuations based on market conditions of edible foods because Jatropha by-products cannot be integrated into the food chain. This also eliminates Jatropha Curcas from the “food-for-the-poor-or-fuel-for-the-rich debate”.
Curcas Oil N.V. ensures its projects adhere to sustainable development principles and to the preservation of biodiverse rainforests and the environment. Curcas Oil N.V. will also commission Environmental Impact Assessments to ensure that its projects meet sustainability requirements.
