Jatropha seedlings

As part of its Jatropha farming and the cultivation of Jatropha seedlings respectively, Curcas Oil N.V. has estabilished its own nurseries on its facilities in Thailand and Indonesia.
The cultivation of Jatropha can be promoted as a means of economic empowerment, social upliftment and poverty alleviation within the rural communities especially in the tropical and sub-tropical countries with under-developed and developing economies.

As first step, the Jatropha seeds are planted into poly bags. Curcas Oil N.V. has implemented a special soil, which is enriched with sand and fertilizer. The proprietary mix ratio is essential for the growth of the Jatropha seedlings. By using a “shading”, the Jatropha seedlings are shielded from the sun to prevent expeditious growing (“stunning”).

The Jatropha seeds start germinating after a period of a few days and following this, the Jatropha seedlings stay in the nursery for 3 months. Once they have grown enough to show resistancy against heavy winds effects of the weather, the Jatropha seedlings will be planted on the field. Each hectar will be planted with 1,600 Jatropha seedlings.
After a period of approx. 8 months, the Jatropha seedlings, Jatropha plants respectively, will be trimmed to make the harvest easier as well as to receive more branches.
