Jatropha Oil
The ever-increasing demand for and the dwindling mineral fuel oil supply have stimulated the rapid expansion of the bio-fuel industry. The brisk development of the biodiesel industry in EU especially in Germany, has led to the growth of other sources of sustainable vegetable oil.
In such a dilemma, Jatropha crude oil stands tall as an inedible, tropical oil to be developed solely for the biodiesel industry, compared to edible palm oil from Malaysia and Indonesia and other edible oils such as rapeseed, soybean, sunflower and other soft oils from the USA, Brazil and the EU.
Jatropha crude oil (aka Curcas Oil) is a vegetable oil produced from the seeds of the Jatropha Curcas plant. When Jatropha seeds are crushed, the manufactured Jatropha crude oil can be further processed to produce a high-grade biodiesel or used directly as a fuel in engines, lamps. Three tons of Jatropha seeds produce approximately one ton Jatropha crude oil. Biodiesel refined from Jatropha crude oil complies with the current regulatory standards EN14214 and ASTMD 6751.
The distinctive advantage of Jatropha crude oil is that it cannot be used for the production of food. Additionally, the production of Jatropha crude oil does not interfere with land for food.
